New Temple of the Jedi
~ Welcome ~

Welcome to the official web site of [NT], the New Temple of the Jedi clan, a primarily saber-only clan playing Lucas Arts' Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

Our clan has effectively been in existence since 2001, when it was known as {tojo} or Temple of the Jedi Order. {tojo} folded in Spring 2003 and the surviving members banded together to form [NT], which jokingly is sometimes referred to by ex-TOJOs as "New TOJO". The founders took the opportunity when reconstituting the clan to make a few changes including changing from an autocracy to a more democratic entity where hopefully everyone has a voice. We're quite proud of our history with TOJO as many members have been playing the Jedi Knight series for years and are exceptionally skilled and dedicated to the game.

Unlike most clans, [NT] is formulated on a democratic basis with new members being elected into the clan by the entire active membership and officers such as team captains being elected by the membership for a two month period before coming up for re-election. A point that often confuses other clans is that we have no leader, a fact that we're quite proud of. The only areas of the clan that are not democratic are those relating to the administration of the clan's various servers and services and decisions relating thereto such as our rules and policies on the different categories of membership and number of members allowed. These decisions relating to the clan's administration are made by voting amongst either the 5 member council or the three voting administrators (known as the Permanent Councilors) who are primarily bearing the brunt of paying for the upkeep of the clan's services, which include a number of fast public game and voice servers and this web site and forum, all of which are hosted by JetstreamServers.com.

If you've played on one of our public servers then you'll know that the biggest difference between NT and most other clans is our attitude towards other players. A lot of clans pay lip service and claim to act with honor when often they are full of lamers. It is a requirement for members to never lame* another player, never swear, never insult another player or make offensive comments and never to cheat. All our members must act politely at all times, no exceptions. We have voted members out of the clan for not following this code of conduct and will continue to do so in the future. We also expect guests to follow this same code of conduct when visiting our servers and all are generally welcome, even if you belong to a "laming" clan, as long as you respect our rules when playing on our servers. As a result, many, many guests have expressed their thanks to us for keeping our servers "kid-friendly and clean" so people of all ages and backgrounds can play in a fun, friendly, respectful, nurturing yet still extremely competitive environment. This is what keeps our servers so busy with many clans as well as skilled individuals choosing to hang out with us. It also gives us the opportunity to arrange for numerous official clan vs. clan competitions where our teams (NT has four teams) typically compete in several clan matches per month.

To give individuals not in clans a taste of what a clan match is like, we sometimes hold open practices with our teams or allow some guests to play for fun in unofficial matches. As a clan and individual players one of our primary goals is to give back to the community via various means such as developing anti-exploit rcon tools (e.g. Temple Guardian), skins, saber packs, maps, blood mods, etc., by loaning passworded servers to other clans needing to test and develop maps and mods such as the Jedi Academy mod or loaning a server to a clan temporarily without a home due to unforeseen circumstances. We also try to broker relations between clans that have fallen out with each other. When guests come and play on our servers they often comment on how friendly we are to everyone, even n00bs. Many of our members take time out to teach a new player some moves, recognizing that they were themselves new once too.

While you're getting to know us, we should mention that we're very proud of our diversity and acceptance of other cultures and backgrounds. Our players’ ages range from the low teens to grandfathers. We have a number of female members although the majority are male and we have members of all sexual persuasions, although of course we do not ask since we respect members privacy. (Sometimes a member will voluntarily state their background.) Members’ religions include atheist, agnostic, Christian, Muslim, Buddist, Shinto and others (in no particular order) and our members are located throughout the planet in places such as North America, Western Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand. We do not discriminate based on age, religion, gender, race or sexual orientation. Quite the opposite, we have a desire to learn about the rest of the world and to make new friends with different views to our own. We neither encourage nor discourage particular views but we do accept people for who they are, even if their views are radically different to one's own. Acceptance, respect, and consideration of others is one of the prime tenets amongst our membership.

If you're interested in joining us, please note that our recruitment process is three staged and no one individual can grant your wish since we elect all members. First a potential member must post an application in the Applications part of our forum. After two weeks, any member who has been in NT for 3 months or more may sponsor that candidate. The candidate then dons [NT-RC] tags and, in another two weeks, a poll goes up in the members forum concerning the candidates acceptance into NT. For more information about joining NT, please click on the “New Applicants” link.

If you have any questions or feedback then please visit our forum and post a message there. We look forward to seeing you on one of our servers!
